About Designer Francis Gelb

As Francis Gelb, creator of the Sabre brand, says himself being born with a silver spoon in your mouth creates vocations.

The son of a goldsmith family and immersed in the arts of the table from a very young age, he wanted to combine the meticulous work of craftsmanship with his taste for colour, materials and shapes. Sabre has become the embodiment of a table of madness!

About Sabre

Sabre was founded in 1993 by Francis Gelb wiht a mission to offer “A sense of elegance, colour and fun”. From their base in Paris their simple elegance is available around the world in discerning shops like Abrahams Store.

For those of an historical bent the word ‘sabre’ is very much associated with the derring-do of cavalry regiments. With Sabre being a French company, the Cuirassier in particular. With gleaming brestplates charging at opponents during the Napoleonic era, their intervention won many a famous victory. However during the afternoon of June 18th 1815, at the Battle of Waterloo they failed to break through the British Infantry Squares despite numerous attempts. With Blücher’s reinforcements approaching this failure played a pivotal role in the battle.

Modern use of the sabre remains as one of the three classifications for competitive fencing (along with the epée and foil).
