About the Natural History Museum

Those familiar with the Natural History Museum (NHM) know that there may know that there’s a branch (no pun intended) at Tring. However most people think of the huge building and gardens in South Kensington, London. This building was a triumph of the Victorian Age, Although the collection was started by Hans Solane (as in the square), it was housed in several places before the current building. Designed by Alfred Waterhouse the building we know today was opened in 1881. It brings togther the collective scientific thought of the likes of Charles Darwin and Richard Owen. (The dinosaur man, who was educated just down the road from Kirkby Lonsdale at Lancaster RGS. )

Even if you’ve never been, you’ll know the ineriors well. Particulalry the Dinosaur (or Hintz) Hall that has carved its own place in popular culture feauturing in the movie “One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing”.  Thus inspired, it went on to co-star in “Paddington” and “Tomb Raider” and is regulary used by TV companies. With su much media work it’s a wonder that they manage to curate the musuem. Good job, then that we’ve curated this collection for you.
