About REN Clean Skincare
the beginning.

Founded in 2000 by Rob Calcraft and Antony Buck, REN Clean Skincare effectively started the ‘Clean’ market for skincare. Buck’s wife had suffered reactions to her existing beauty range when she was pregnant.  Her quest for ‘safe’ skincare inspired the birth of REN Clean Skincare range.

Clean Beauty, no compromise.

Buck and Calcraft created a skincare brand to challenge the often-synthetic ingredients in traditional skincare. As an alternative, they would create a brand for those who suffer from skin sensitivity which was, above all ‘safe’. Concentrating on constituents that are natural and in addition, have proven benefits  they rejected a list of ingredients to minimise the risk of causing irritation. This refusal to compromise the health of the skin barrier underpins all formulas at REN Clean Skincare to this day thus building a trusted brand name.

At the forefront: skin sensitivity.

With microdermabrasion, acid peels and injectables on the rise, ‘sensitive skin’ was an overlooked category. At the same time, those identifying as having a sensitive skin type was also increasing. The founders therefore decided to place support for sensitive skin as the uppermost aspect of their offering. All REN products whether anti-ageing or exfoliation are, most imporatnly, formulated for sensitive skin.

The future of Clean Skincare.

Over the last 20 years, consumers have taken increasing interest in the contents of beauty products with many actively seeking more natural-origin alternatives. While this may have been fortunate for REN on the other hand different concerns have also become more prevalent. As a society we have become more aware of the impact we’re having on our planet. Taking pride in sourcing ingredients form sustainable sources that don’t harm our environment, REN are also taking action on all aspects of their products.

Towards zero waste

Leading the way, in 2018 REN pledged to become the first Zero Waste beauty brand by the end of 2021 so they will only produce recycled, recyclable or reusable packaging. Further, the company has undertaken partnerships with planet-focused NGOs like Planet Patrol and Surfrider Foundation. Together, they are driving hands-on change, in other words creating a brighter future for our planet. As REN say “We’re proud again to be the first brand to pioneer a 360° approach to what it means to be Clean”.
