These Multicolour Millefiori Murano Glasses are produced by hand by master glassmakers, according to the ancient tradition of Murano glass processing. Each hand-blown water glass will bring colour and joy to your table. Semi-transparent glass comes in bright shades of Blue, Aqua, Orange, Purple, Amber, Light or Dark Green. As ever, with Abrahams, we love colourful things and these are spectacular (pariculalry the bule ones).
Murano glass comes from the issand of the same name in the Venician Lagoon in modern day Italy. Before the unification (Garibaldi and all that) of couse, Venice had enjoyed a long independent history as a trading nation. It’s difficult to imagine the wealth and spleandor that Venitians enjoyed but that continues with the production of their glasswear. I remember going to a glass factory there as a youngster back in the late 1960s (I can dimly remember they had large photos of the 1967 flooding). I’ve got clearer memories of going there again with my family a few years ago when we saw an exquisite horse being made. Memories of that trip also feature visiting Stravinsky’s grave on the island of San Michele. I also recall being horrified by both the price of drinks in St Marks Square and the huge cruise ships dominating the skyline.
