Puddin ‘Head Designer Richard McAdam

Fascinated by the subject, Sydney based Richard studied sybology of art which led to the highly distinctive combination of design asthetic and humour in his work.

Playfully named Puddin’head is the creation of Richard McAdam, the Sydney based print maker and illustrator. Richard graduated from Sydney’s prestigious National Art School. His mission is to make original designs usually found in a gallery available to all and relevant to everyday life. He is devoted to producing work outside modern manufacturing practices. Instantly recognisable, his work depicts strong, dignified images of animals, insects and people. Many of his characters are dreamed up from his avid reading of classical books giving his work a mythical, surreal quality. Common throughout his work is an underlying humour and charisma.

For his inspiration, Richard cites the artists Oskar Kokoschka, Wes Anderson, Banksy, Saul Bass, Rosalie Gascoigne, Peter Sellers, Tim Burton, David Byrne.  Notable comics whom he would invite to his fantasy dinner party include Groucho Marx, Stephen Fry and Dorothy Parker. A warning though by way of a quote from  Dorothy Parker. “One more and I’ll be under the table, two more and I’ll be under the host”. Other guests he would welcome include Beck, Hunter S Thompson, both the Francis Bacons and Christopher Walken .
The dinner party would, no doubt, feature the placemats and coasters from the Puddin’ Head collection.
